We're a small business based in Burbank, CA, that plays D&D with kids and teenagers, ages 8-18. Our mission is not only to provide D&D games for young people, it's to equip young people with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to run D&D games on their own...
...Or with us! Young Dragons is also a leadership group for young D&D enthusiasts, and nearly all of our games are run by our team of teenage DMs, known as the Elder Dragons. (More on them below!)
At the friendliest game store in Southern California -- nay, the world! Our games have always been at Geeky Teas & Games, in Burbank, CA, and, Torm willing, always will be.
Since our humble beginnings in 2019, the answer to that question has always been: "Whatever makes sense to you." Our pricing is outlined below, but scholarships are always available upon request, and any adventurer in need of one will receive it. We're proud to say that in our 5 years of running games, money has never kept a player from our table, and that record is one we're determined to keep.
Without a scholarship, our introductory events are $30, which covers a 2-3 hour session depending on the event.
Most of our campaigns cost $200, which covers four weekly 3 hour sessions led by one of our Elder Dragon DMs. Games with our Ancient Dragon founders start at $300 for the same package, but these games are much more limited in scope, and generally reserved for young players and with special accommodation needs.
We recommend all newcomers to Young Dragons get started with one of our monthly events -- these are one-off, low commitment events which require little or no knowledge of the game, and they range from arts-and-crafts painting sessions to one-off D&D adventures. They're usually free, or $30 for a single session. If interested check out our Weekend One Shots or Other Activities. You can also stay up to date on current events by checking our Calendar or by joining our mailing list.
Young Dragons has been running games for young people since 2018, and in that time it's seen some amazing players grow up and become amazing DMs. As our players develop an interest in running their own games, they may be invited to try out DMing at one of our monthly one-off events. If they continue DMing at these events and show an aptitude for it, they may be invited to join our Elder Dragons. Elder Dragons are not only eligible to be hired by Young Dragons as a DM, they participate in the leadership of Young Dragons, helping to decide on our seasonal themes, monthly offerings, even managing parts of our budget. Becoming an Elder Dragons is hard work -- but its benefits pay off! You can read more about becoming an Elder Dragons here.
Once you've gotten to know us and learned a little more about how to play D&D, we recommend that all of our enthusiastic adventurers sign up for a weekly campaign. This is D&D the way it's meant to be played -- you'll adventure with the same DM and party for 4-12 (or more) sessions, and watch your character grows, changes, and levels up as they work their way through a story that builds across every session. You can sign up for our current season of campaigns here.
